Internships

About the program

Business & Legal Affairs (Undergrad): All majors welcome.
Interns help with administrative duties surrounding the legal aspects of the pre-production, production, and post-production of our films, as well as help us review and draft production contracts and post-production memos. This is a great opportunity to be a part of a major motion picture studio's legal department. Juniors and seniors with an interest in entertainment law are preferred. No previous legal experience is necessary.

Development/Acquisitions: All majors welcome.
Interns assist the department with administrative duties and have the opportunity to help with coverage, script notes, and comparisons. Interns have complete access to all projects and project files.

Music
Interns gain an overall understanding of the role of music in film and soundtracks. Interns are involved in administrative aspects of music supervision, including contact with record labels, composers, and affiliated companies. Interns will also be responsible for maintaining a record archive. An average of 15 - 20 hours per week is preferred, but the schedule is flexible. Interns may have the chance to visit a scoring or mastering session (schedule permitting). A strong interest in the music business is ideal and an interest in music as a hobby is essential.

New Line Records
All majors welcome, but music business and music majors are preferred. New Line Records is an independent record label and a subsidiary of New Line Cinema. NLR releases score and soundtrack records for New Line's films, but also releases full-length albums by recording artists. Interns gain an intimate knowledge of the inner workings of an independent record label. Interns should be motivated with an existing interest in record labels, management or a related industry. Interns will be responsible for many administrative duties including mailings and processing invoices, but will also have direct access to everyone at the label and will have the opportunity to experience almost every aspect of a record label. Additionally, since the label is part of the music department at New Line Cinema, interns are able to interact with music supervisors and learn their role in films and soundtracks.

Physical Production
Interns are shown the inner workings of the studio's production department from pre-production to wrap, in an office setting. Interns assist in day-to-day office work and are able to interact with the physical production staff. Interns have the opportunity to view some dailies and possibly visit a set if the production is shooting in the Los Angeles area.

Post Production
Interns have the opportunity to experience the department's involvement through related paperwork and by observing an editorial crew through a portion of a film. Interns assist in day-to-day operations including copying, distributing, and filing paperwork between the department and films in production.

Publicity
Interns will assist the department with press functions, movie premieres, and screenings. Internet experience and strong computer skills are a plus for certain areas in publicity. Marketing majors or individuals with a strong interest in publicity are preferred. Responsibilities include: clipping and pasting up press breaks for reports, coordinating and organizing film title binders, helping out with administrative duties, and helping with publicity events (i.e. premieres, junkets, and weekend promotional events).
