New Line Cinema’s Internship Program provides eligible students with exposure to a variety of interesting and challenging projects within one of our many departments. NLC offers the program four times per year, with specific dates determined by local school schedules. Currently New Line is looking to recruit undergraduate students. Students with related majors are encouraged to apply. Listed below are the specific descriptions of these internships:
Business & Legal
Affairs (Undergrad): All majors welcomed. Interns will help with administrative duties surrounding the legal aspects of the pre-production, production and post-production of our films, office management, as well as help us review and draft production contracts and post-production memos. This is a great opportunity to be a part of a major motion picture studio’s legal department. Juniors and Seniors with an interest in entertainment law preferred. No previous legal experience necessary.
Casting: Seeking highly motivated, detail oriented, personable interns in Casting and Development. Must possess strong passion for cinema, know actors and exhibit extreme discretion. Intern responsibilities include: feature film casting, data entry, reading scripts, providing coverage, tracking talent, etc. Ability to use mini DV camera and Final Cut Pro is a plus. Interns will have access to all studio projects, involvement in feature film casting and exposure to A-list talent as well.
Development/Acquisitions: All majors welcomed. Assist department with administrative duties with opportunities to help with coverage, script notes and comparisons. Interns would have complete access to all projects and project files.
Distribution: The ideal candidate for an internship in Distribution will have an interest in Domestic Theatrical Distribution, a strong aptitude for figures and numerical analysis and an excellent attention to detail. The Distribution intern will assist the department with a variety of tasks and special research projects and will have an excellent opportunity to learn about the process of theatrical distribution. Internship duties will include but not be limited to: filing, researching weekend box office on past releases, organizing and overseeing philanthropy requests and assisting with fact checking on the domestic release schedule and box office gross spreadsheets.
Home Entertainment (Acquisitions): Interns will assist the department with their daily duties including logging script coverage, screening potential film acquisitions for direct-to-video distribution, and preparing the department for film festivals such as Cannes and Sundance.
Home Entertainment (Creative Advertising): Graphic Arts, Creative Advertising, Marketing or Communication majors welcomed. Interns will gain an overall understanding of the print and audio-visual advertising associated with the home entertainment release. This ranges from key art, packaging, trade advertising and consumer advertising (print, TV and radio). Interns will assist the Assistant, Coordinator, Manager and Vice-President within the department with their daily duties. This includes gathering competitive advertising, archiving materials, sending correspondence, trafficking materials for internal approvals and more. Interns will learn the basic aspects of all creative advertising. Candidate must be enthusiastic and proactive and are highly creative and detail-oriented.
Home
Entertainment (Publicity): Interns will gain an overall understanding of the expanding role Home Entertainment plays in the studio system, while learning the basic skills of a PR assistant. Responsibilities include; creating clip books for all releases, coordinating media library, researching and updating press lists, assisting with talent appearances and helping out with administrative duties as needed. Looking for interns with an interest in entertainment, a great attitude, creativity, initiative, attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
Human Resources: Learn and experience hands-on the inter-workings of building sound relationships with department clients and temporary agencies. Build on your existing knowledge of HR with direct training in HRIS (Human Resources Information System) database, recruitment, employee programs and initiatives and benefits. Responsibilities include: Help with administrative duties, recruitment efforts, research and HR operations-related processes. Interns may be called upon to assist in sourcing resumes and interview other intern candidates for New Line Cinema. In an effort to provide a true learning HR experience, interns may have the opportunity to observe recruiters conduct interviews and new hire orientations. Ideal candidates should have a strong desire to learn the many facets of Human Resources, possess an energetic personality with strong organization skills, professional phone etiquette and basic computer knowledge.
International: All majors welcomed. The internship will entail working with film, video, marketing and publicity elements, hands on. Interns will assist the Director, Coordinator and Assistant with their daily duties. This includes gathering the appropriate materials for delivery to international destinations, drafting invoices, purchase orders and other correspondence, organizing tasks, and assisting with requests from international sales, marketing and publicity execs. Interns will learn basic aspects of international post production, marketing and publicity with the major focus being international material distribution.
Interactive Marketing/Publicity/Promotions: Intern
will assist interactive publicity and promotions department.
Help assist with on-line press activities, website development,
and feedback in e-mail inbox. Must have basic working knowledge
of the internet and feel comfortable conducting research
projects using the internet and PowerPoint. Creativity is necessary
as they will be able to contribute to website ideas. Will
have opportunity to sit in on business development or new vendor
meetings.
International: All
majors welcomed

Marketing (Creative Advertising): Graphic Arts and Creative Advertising majors welcomed. Interns will gain an overall understanding of print and audio-visual advertising, from one-sheet creative, newspaper ads and printing to trailer creative to television spot creative finishing. Interns will assist the Manager(s), Coordinator and Assistants within the Creative Advertising department with their daily duties. This includes gathering the appropriate materials for delivery to New Line Cinema departments, along with administrative duties such as archiving materials, purchase orders, correspondence, and organizing tasks. Interns will learn basic aspects of all creative advertising. Candidate must be enthusiastic and have a strong creative energy.
Marketing Finance: Intern will get a chance to peek into the world of Theatrical Marketing in the exciting Film Industry. The finance intern will assist in the processing and managing of the marketing budgets & expenses for major theatrical releases (such as Lord of the Rings, Blade, and Austin Powers). They will assist in the processing of travel arrangements for movie stars and the press. In addition, they will contact both vendors and internal employees to track expenses and payments as required. They will also assist in general administrative & office skills including phones, filing, faxing, and overall departmental support.
Finally, interns may also be involved in special finance projects (to be determined). This may involve finance projects detailed in specific marketing areas such as publicity, promotions, media, interactive, research, creative advertising, etc. By the end of the internship, the student will have a strong overview and clear understanding of the makeup of a major studio's theatrical marketing department and how the finance team supports and drives a films release. They will also understand the important role that finance & accounting plays within a studio.

Music: Interns will gain an overall understanding of the role of music in film and soundtracks. Students will be involved in administrative aspects of music supervision including contact with record labels, composers and affiliated companies. Interns will also be responsible for maintaining record archive. An average of 15-20 hours a week is preferred but schedules are flexible. Interns will interact directly with department staff including music and soundtrack supervisors. Interns will also gain an understanding of soundtracks and many of the issues surrounding soundtrack album releases. Music interns may have a chance to visit a scoring or mastering session (schedule permitting). A strong interest in a career in the music business is ideal and an interest in music as a hobby is essential.
Music Finance: Interns will learn the financial and legal aspects of the music industry while working in a fun and casual environment. Responsibilities will include analyzing record sales and artist contracts, creating financial spreadsheets, posting journal entries, publishing and royalty statement administration, data entry and filing. Interns will interact with music supervisors and artists and gain an understanding of the process of signing and developing artists and creating soundtracks. An interest in music and experience with Microsoft Excel are both essential.
National Promotions: Interns will assist the Promotions department. Duties include administrative assignments as well as assisting with special marketing/promotions assignments including research on potential promotional partners and aiding the department with special screenings. Must be extremely organized, responsible, detailed oriented, possess excellent communication and computer skills, have ability to take initiative, handle a high-pressure environment as well as multiple task.
New Line Records: All majors welcomed, but Music Business or Music majors preferred/ 2-3 days a week. New Line Records (NLR) is a fully functioning independent record label, and a subsidiary of New Line. NLR releases score and soundtrack records to New Line films but also releases full-length albums by recording artists. Interns would gain an intimate knowledge of the inner workings of an independent record label and would have the opportunity to gain knowledge in nearly every aspect of the recording industry. Interns should be motivated with an existing interest in record labels, management or a related industry. Interns will be responsible for many administrative duties including mailings and processing invoices but will also have direct access to everyone at the label and will have the opportunity to try their hand at almost every aspect of a record label. Additionally, since the label is part of the music department of New Line Cinema, the Interns will be able to interact with music supervisors and learn their role in relation to films and soundtracks. Though not required, some knowledge of music is ideal to maximize your experience.
New Media: Intern will assist Director of Online Auctions. Will assist with administrative duties surrounding the online aspects of the corporate website, auction site and web store(s). Responsibilities include: online merchandising of wardrobe and prop items including writing product descriptions, weekly newsletter, working on spreadsheets and reviewing applicants for online affiliation.. Must have basic working knowledge of the internet, and feel comfortable conducting research projects using the internet. Candidate must be enthusiastic and have a strong creative energy as well as excellent writing skills.
Photography: All majors welcomed /2-3 days a week. Organize and collate all photography materials for films/projects, coordinate all materials to send to New Line Cinema archives, assist with various publicity events (press junkets, photo shoots and premieres). Work in all areas under the marketing umbrella and assist the department as needed.
Physical Production: Interns in Physical Production are shown the inner workings of the studio’s production department in various stages from pre-production to wrap in an office setting. They have an opportunity to experience the department’s involvement with its feature films in production through daily communication and related paperwork. Interns assist in day-to-day operations including copying, distributing and filing all paperwork between the department and all films in production which will aid in understanding the production process. The interns will also have an opportunity to view some dailies tapes as well as possibly visit a set if the production is shooting in the Los Angeles area.
Post Production: Interns in Post Production observe the various areas of Post Production. Some areas are Feature, Television & Home Video, International, Marketing and Inventory. Interns have an opportunity to experience the department's involvement through related paperwork and working through portion of a film observing an editorial crew. Interns assist in day today operations including copying, distributing and filing all paperwork between the department and all films in production which will aid in understanding the production process. Students should have a definite interest in the Post Production process.
Publicity: Interns will assist department with press functions, movie premieres and screenings. Internet experience and strong computer skills are a plus for certain areas in publicity. Marketing majors preferred or individuals with a strong interest in publicity. Outgoing personality required along with interest in entertainment a must. Responsibilities include; clipping and pasting up press breaks for reports, coordinating and organizing film title binders, helping out with administrative duties as needed, and helping with publicity events (i.e. premieres, junkets, weekend promotional events). A team player needed that can follow directions but if thrown the ball can run with it.
Television Development: Interns will help conduct television research, prepare presentations and learn how TV pitches are put together. Responsibilities include: helping with general office help (faxing, filing, phones). Candidates should have an interest in reality television and television development.

These internships are all non-paying and for undergraduates only
