New Line Home Entertainment Opens The Book of Love With Outrageous Comedy Available on April 27

New Line Co-CEO and Founder Robert Shaye’s

Feature Directorial Debut Arrives on DVD for the First Time

with an All-New R-Rated Version of the Film

    Plus Director Commentary and Featurette

LOS ANGELES, CA (March 25, 2004) – New Line Home Entertainment today announced a new street date for the upcoming Book of Love DVD, now available on April 27, 2004. Robert Shaye, co-chief executive officer and founder of New Line Cinema, helms this engaging romantic comedy that marks his feature directorial debut. Book of Love will be released with the R-Rated director’s cut of the film, a version not previously seen in theaters, along with filmmaker commentary, a short film and a featurette. This nostalgic look at growing up in the 1950’s will be available for the first time on DVD for $19.97. The PG-13 theatrical version of the film is currently available on VHS.

The DVD features film commentary from director Robert Shaye plus the documentary Meet Bob Shaye, chronicling his rise to Hollywood power-player and founder of New Line Cinema. His award-winning short film Image is also included with optional commentary. In addition, the DVD offers a widescreen (1.85:1) version of the film not previously seen in theaters, 5.1 Surround Sound, DTS Surround Sound, Stereo Surround Sound, English and Spanish subtitles, the original theatrical trailer, closed captions and animated menus.

Book of Love centers around Jack Twiller (Chris Young, PCU), whose hilarious efforts to impress the prettiest girl in school (Josie Bissett, TV’s Melrose Place) always seem to lead to disaster. Whether throwing wild parties, imitating James Dean, or “streaking” through the neighborhood with his outrageous friends (John Cameron Mitchell, Hedwig and the Angry Inch; Danny Nucci, Titanic; and Keith Coogan, Adventures in Babysitting), Jack will do whatever it takes to win the girl of his dreams. In his obsession to win over the prom queen, though, he overlooks the one girl who really appreciates his unique charm.

Boasting a rock- and-roll soundtrack and an irresistible young cast, Book of Love is a comic chapter in the life of a teenager who suffers all the hilarious humiliations of adolescence – but finally finds that growing up isn’t all that bad.
