Horror Legends Stephen King, Tobe Hooper and Robert Englund Join Forces to Bring The Crushing Terror Of The Mangler To DVD on August 17
Director’s Cut of THE GUYVER and
THE GUYVER 2 Make Their DVD Debuts
LOS ANGELES, CA (May 17, 2004) – Director Tobe Hooper scares up a chilling tale of terror with The Mangler, available on DVD for the first time on August 17 from New Line Home Entertainment. Hooper, director of the original The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) and Poltergeist, unites with masters of horror Stephen King (who wrote the story upon which The Mangler is based) and Robert Englund (star of A Nightmare on Elm Street and Freddy Vs. Jason) to tell the tale of a cursed laundry machine that prefers feeding on people rather than clean shirts. The Mangler DVD features alternate/unrated scenes that allow the viewer to compare the theatrical version side-by-side with the alternate scenes. Also releasing on August 17 are The Guyver films, two action-packed, monster-laden, sci-fi thrillers that take the battle between good and evil to a new level. The first film – The Guyver – offers a director’s cut with more than four minutes of additional footage, bringing fans the ultimate Guyver experience. Each DVD is available at a $19.97 SRP.
After a series of grisly accidents at The Blue Ribbon Laundry Company, Detective John Hunton (Ted Levine, The Silence of the Lambs) closes down the operation to investigate the “accidental” deaths involving its largest and oldest machine. He discovers the owner of the Blue Ribbon has made a pact with the devil, and these deaths are no accident! To keep the town solvent, “everyone must make sacrifices” – and virgin blood must be fed to the bloodthirsty demon. With time running out and a young girl’s life hanging in the balance, Hunton races to destroy the beast before it is too late.
The Mangler DVD features alternate/unrated scenes (included with side-by-side edit comparisons), a widescreen version (1.85:1) of the film with DTS, 5.1 Surround Sound and Stereo Surround Sound, the theatrical trailer, English and Spanish subtitles, closed captions and animated menus plus additional New Line Cinema trailers. The film is rated R for gory horror violence and language and has a running time of 106 minutes.
The Guyver, starring Mark Hamill (Star Wars), Vivian Wu (Dinner Rush) and Jack Armstrong (28 Days, TV’s Live from Baghdad), is based on the original Japanese anime comic. In the movie, a young man discovers a mechanical device that merges with his own body, turning him into a cyborg superhero. When strange creatures start appearing, trying to take the device back, he begins to uncover a secret plot to genetically engineer terrifying monsters. The Guyver features appearances from cult film stars Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes), Jeffrey Combs (The Re-animator) and Linnea Quigley (The Return of the Living Dead). The director’s cut DVD is rated PG-13 and has a running time of 92 minutes – including more than four additional minutes of newly restored film footage.
The Guyver returns to battle the forces of evil in The Guyver 2, an action-packed sequel to the 1991 film. Drawn to an archeological dig in the Utah backcountry, the Guyver discovers an alien ship filled with weapons capable of world destruction. With the fate of all mankind in his hands, he makes a final stand against the forces of evil. This time, the world\'s strongest superhero must change his destiny to save the planet from the villainous Zoanids. The Guyver 2 is rated R for sci-fi violence, gore and language and has a 127- minute running time.
The Guyver and The Guyver 2 DVDs include a widescreen (1:85:1) version of the film with English and Spanish subtitles plus closed captions.
