    Keisha Castle-Hughes to Portray Virgin Mary in New Line's Nativity

    LOS ANGELES (March 22, 2006) - New Line Cinema has cast Keisha Castle-Hughes as the Virgin Mary in Nativity, which is scheduled for a Dec. 2006 release and will begin shooting in May.

    Castle-Hughes, a native of Australia, received an Oscar nomination for best actress in 2003 for her role in Whale Rider. In Nativity, she will play Mary in the two year period leading up to the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem.

    Catherine Hardwicke (Lords of Dogtown, Thirteen) is directing the film, with a script penned by Mike Rich.  Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen are producing.
