    An All-Star Cast Invites You to Peek Backstage as Robert Altman's A Prairie Home Companion Arrives on DVD on Octoer 10, 2006

    LOS ANGELES, CA (July 24, 2006) – Celebrate an evening of music and comedy as legendary filmmaker Robert Altman (Gosford Park, Nashville, The Player) pulls back the curtain on A Prairie Home Companion, arriving on DVD on October 10, 2006, from New Line Home Entertainment. The film features a star-studded cast including Meryl Streep (The Devil Wears Prada, Prime), Lily Tomlin (I ♥ Huckabees, TV’s The West Wing), Lindsay Lohan (Just My Luck, Mean Girls), Kevin Kline (The Pink Panther, Life as a House), Woody Harrelson (A Scanner Darkly, After the Sunset), Tommy Lee Jones (Men in Black, The Fugitive), John C. Reilly (Chicago, Boogie Nights), Virginia Madsen (Firewall, Sideways), Maya Rudolph (TV’s Saturday Night Live, 50 First Dates) and the creator/host of the real-life American Public Radio show, Garrison Keillor. Altman’s unique style takes you behind-the-scenes of this fictionalized version of Keillor’s beloved program, in what will be the company’s final performance. Discover the impact this homegrown show has on the performers and its loyal audience with DVD features including audio commentary from director Altman and star Kevin Kline, deleted scenes and a behind-the-scenes featurette. A Prairie Home Companion will be available at a $27.95 SRP with a September 5, 2006, order due date.
    Director Robert Altman and writer Garrison Keillor join forces with an all-star cast to create a comic backstage fable, A Prairie Home Companion, about a fictitious radio variety show that has managed to survive in the age of television. Meryl Streep and Lily Tomlin star as the Johnson Sisters, Yolanda and Rhonda, a country duet act that has survived the county-fair circuit, and Lindsay Lohan plays Meryl’s daughter, Lola, who gets her big chance to sing on the show and then forgets the words. Kevin Kline is Guy Noir, a private eye down on his luck who works as the shows security guard, and Woody Harrelson and John C. Reilly are Dusty and Lefty, the Old Trailhands, a singing cowboy act. Add Virginia Madsen as an angel, Tommy Lee Jones as the Axeman, Maya Rudolph as a pregnant stagehand and Keillor in the role of hangdog emcee, and you have a playful story set on a rainy Saturday night in St. Paul, Minnesota, where fans file into the Fitzgerald Theater to see “A Prairie Home Companion,” a staple of radio station WLT, not knowing that WLT has been sold to a Texas conglomerate and that tonight’s broadcast will be the shows last.
