Pierce Brosnan to Star in New Line Cinema Comedy Spy Vs. Stu
LOS ANGELES (Nov. 21, 2006) – Pierce Brosnan has signed on to star in the New Line Cinema comedy Spy vs. Stu, it was announced today by New Line Production President Toby Emmerich.
Based on an original screenplay from the writing team of Keith Mitchell and Allie Dvorin, the comedy centers on Stu, a commitment-phobe who plans to propose to his girlfriend on an island vacation. But unbeknownst to him, a handsome and debonair spy (Brosnan) is on the other end of the island, having just finished saving the world. When the bored spy takes a serious liking to Stu's girl, Stu is forced to compete with this ultra-suave superspy in order to win the heart of his true love.
“The movie's about a regular guy having to compete against the world’s greatest spy for a girl - well, who better to play the role than the man who held that position for more than 10 years?” says Mitchell and Dvorin. “Pierce’s charm, charisma and comedic timing make him the ideal fit in bringing this project to life.”
Spy vs. Stu is being produced by Brosnan’s Irish Dream Time production company. New Line production executives Richard Brener and Jeff Katz will oversee the project for the studio.
Mitchell and Dvorin have previously collaborated on The Untitled Peter Westbrook Story for Disney/Touchstone; The Club for Paramount; and “Brewster’s Million” for ABC Family Channel. Mitchell previously wrote Mr. 3000 for Disney.
